For Nisa

Days no longer simple, but busy and hard, As life moves on to roads with new bends, Every day comes, as we stand on guard, A question echos in mind, 'What is a friend?' Afternoons spent in laughter and screams, Finishing sentences which had no sense, Calling each other even after a busy day, Those were the days, smiles had no end, You had my back, and I had yours, Messages needn't phones to be sent, Understanding silences played a big part, You were, always after all my best Friend!

Gandhi Talks- A review

Watched Gandhi Talks. Starring: Vijay Sethupati, Aditi Rao hydari, and Arvind Swami. No Spoilers. Not a single dialogue in the entire movie. Might seem slow at the beginning, but the music by AR Rahman just flows the narrative. Ever actor, talks with their eyes, or expression on their face;  the reason why the movie stars artists like Mahesh Manjrekar and Zarina wahab, and not 'Super stars' who can't give a single face look that makes sense. Arvind is as good as he has always been. Aditi Rao hydari has always been under rated and never given the chance she deserves, whenever given (like delhi 6), she always delivers. But my favourite is Vijay. He just makes you root for him so badly, his eyes speak volumes. Watch the movie, without distractions if you want to enjoy it. The music speaks to you in ways, the dialogues never could. Hats off to the director, screen play writer and of course, AR Rahman.

A Watch to Remember

Watches are so named as a reminder, if you don't watch carefully what you do with your time, it can slip away from you. - Drew Sirtors I liked wearing a wristwatch as early as my school times. Issue was, they always broke, got moisture from water, or somehow their battery stopped. Finally, one day, in my 9th standard, my uncle finally got me a new watch and said, 'Lets see you break this.'   Oh how I loved that watch! If it fell down, it didn't stop, water didn't hurt it, no matter what happened to it, it just didn't stop working all through my college years. It was only when  I started working and got educated about brands through my friends, I realised my watch was water proof, super solid and was a 'Titan' product which would have costed huge in the 90s.  Today I have smart watches, counting my steps, heart beat and a host of other stuff. I still have my old Titan in a jwellery box ( told you I loved it). Yet when my company gave me a normal watch o...

Autumn Hope

Image
As seasons go by and then reach fall, Colors of green change their shade, Trees covered totally in red overalls, Some leaves waiting above to fade, One last leaf thinking while on the branch When will I be just like my friends? I am not good enough, too staunch, Why do I get to turn only in the end The leaf doesn't know it is very precious, With a longer life and a much better fate, There is no need for it to be anxious, If good things in its life happen late, So when you feel in life that you are the last, Still keep working hard till end from the start, others might seem to be moving a bit fast,  Just hold on tightly to the hope in your heart!

Happy birthday Samien!

If you could go back, who would you want to meet?

This was my second book by a Japanese author (after Ikagai) , and I have to say, there is a very different kind of connection these authors make with the reader. As the tag line suggests, what happens when you get a chance to go to the past. But going back has some rules.  The book could have been in any era, the characters were a mix of generations and skillfully described. The chapters were not supposed to be speed read instead, read, thought and digested. The scenarios were 'different'  and were supposed to be felt instead of just read. I couldn't give this book one genre, it was a subtle mix of genres and after finishing it,  I just closed it, looked out the window and wanted to just think about it for sometimes. I need to read more Japanese authors...for sure.

Netflix Series: Kaala Pani

Honestly, the trailers and online reviews don't do justice to the undercurrents of this series. Though it is set in the future 4-5 years ( possibly to avoid political cases etc); it is extremely relevant. Exquisite writing, great direction and what a screenplay; absolutely no cgi, and no pricey sets. There are no stars in this series; there are only artists. The governor, the doctor, the scientist , the businessman, the taxi driver,  the tribal , the nurse, they are all so excellently cast. As the series starts, in the first episode you think you have it all figured out; but actually they are all jigsaw pieces, which are just waiting to come together. Ironically when they come together they create more chaos rather than when they were away. The mysterious part is things we miss while watching the series, the characters do as well which just brings to fore- how less we pay 'Attention' to things around us. We humans are selfish and grey. Nature is equal for all. We think the ...

Independence Day Speech

My dear Friends, 'Freedom is nothing but a chance to do better' Welcome to the celebration for the 77th Independence Day of India. We celebrate Independence Day as the national festival of India. The Day is auspicious for us as it marks the anniversary of national independence from the British Empire on 15th august 1947. On this day, we should also remember the lives that we sacrificed to gain this freedom. As they are the ones who struggled for our country.  One of the main motives for celebrating Independence Day is to make the young generation aware of the sacrifices we have made to make this country a better place for them. Gaining independence from Britishers was not easy. And it’s because of the struggles and hardships of our freedom fighters that we now live in a free country. On Independence Day we should remember the long battle that our freedom fighters fought and sacrifices that they have made. The Youth of our country should not take this freedom for granted. We hav...

The New Year 2023 - Gratitude is the Feeling

2022 came after Two years of Covid restrictions and this was the first year where life finally returned to 'normalcy'. Things that we earlier took for granted now felt like a luxury. Going out, meeting people in person, eating out, travelling, smells of the garden and environment...the list is endless. As much as we felt relieved to be out in the world again, I can't stop feeling thankful for having those that I love, safe and sound.  The reason is a lot of world perished in the last two years and as they say we all must 'hold on to the ones we love'; yet many didn't even get a chance to say goodbye. As the pandemic ended or got controlled, the economy started to fare bad and a lot of  people lost their jobs which is still ongoing. So in this day and age, if you have a roof over your head, a steady income and your loved ones are hale and hearty, believe me you are a very 'Lucky Person'. Hug those you meet, have a good laugh, and say a Prayer of Gratitud...

Owning our duty to clean Never stop caring about trees Lakes, rivers, oceans need us Yes air can be pollution free Our world is beautiful  Note everything around Earth is precious for us Extend a hand to recycle Allow others to do more Remember it's the first step That leads ahead of before Help to save Mother Earth. ---- Water is Precious for all Always enjoy when rain falls To make plants more tall Earth needs many water falls Remember to save it for all !

Respecting our Differences

Reminiscing about my time in Hyderabad when I started working for Infosys and had to live in a PG. Our group comprised of 4 girls in the same flat, with 2 girls in the adjoining flat. Two girls from Delhi, One from Faridabad, One from Mumbai, One from Kerala and me from UP.  The language we spoke with each other was pure 'hindustani'. One would say 'Oye', other would say 'Tu kar le', one saying, 'Code mein locha hogaya',  me saying 'Uljhan ho rahi hai' and our innocent Malyali friend trying to grasp the 'core' of the whole conversation. But we always understood each other. Sharing the same cupboard with my room mate, where left side her 'Krishan ji moorti' and prayer book was placed. Right side my 'Jaanamaz' and Quran were placed. Me and my room mate coming from office at the same time, she did her Pooja and I read namaz in the same room, at the same time. But we always had the space we needed. Any of the other frie...

World for an Engineers

Scientists dream about doing things…Engineers do them . I am a BSc in mathematics but possess an MCA degree. Hence, I can’t tell you about how I chose Engineering, but I can tell you how the world of IT chose me. Learning in school can be boring, interesting or liberating depending upon how good your teachers are. I always felt mathematics was the most difficult subject in the world. Until I got Math lessons from a Teacher in 9 th grade who was so good; he remembered not just the lesson he had to teach each day, but also the page and line number of the book on which it was printed. As high school ended, I knew if I wanted to go into Science stream, I had to pick math as a subject, deeply inspired by his teaching. Of course, MCA was terrifying and extremely difficult without an engineering degree, but all through it, my mother encouraged me that if I have enrolled for it, I can get through it with flying colors. Being from a small town, the ambition was to get selected in...

Sardaar ka Grandson: Movie Review

Sardar ka Grandson Release Date: 18 May 2021 Length: 141 minutes (or eternity) Cast: Neena Gupta ( The star performer ) Rating: 2/5 Sometimes a beautiful concept gets drowned out in covering all commercial aspects of a movie. This is what happened to Sardar ka Grandson. The movie directed by Kaashvi Nair, written by  Anuja Chauhan and Kaashvi Nair, could have been so much better if there was rigorous editing and a tighter screenplay. The cinematography by Mahendra J Shetty is very much up to the mark, especially in the pre-Independence scenes. Neena Gupta in her role of 'Sardar' is a treat to watch. Though couldn't say the same for her makeup which seems that it would fall off any minute. Kanwaljit and Soni Razdaan are well casted. Aditi Rao hydari is adorable in her cameo and John Abraham looks great. The camera shots bringing past and present together are beautiful and yet the movie doesn't work for you. First reason, is the length of the movie. The slow build up of ...

With all seen and done till now As we all move ahead in unison Remember the good and the bad, But don't ever forget the Lessons. Happy New Year everyone😇 - Thought By Me

The flowers of Gulmohar

Image
So My Mom got small plants of 'Gulmoher' home. People told her, it won't be of much use since Gulmoher flowers never grow in vases. She heard them, but she didn't lose her enthusiasm. She got the soil changed, trimmed the stems,    nurtured them and cared for them for months. One fine day, Flowers of Gulmoher bloomed in those vases. Nurturing to achieve Excellence is my Mom's Core Skill. She made an engineer, a journalist and a wild life researcher out of 3 mediocre girls for whom she was told very much the same things. But she Knows... Love, Care and Faith can achieve Miracles.
